Redington sold again!

Post by Brookie » Sun Aug 03, 2003 11:55 am

Well, again, Redington has once again been sold.
This time Sage bought them.
I haven't seen a company being sold for this many times.
Anyone have any insight on what's going on? :?:

:?: Tough to say unless you are an insider. I see Reddington as a fishing company that is somewhat struggling to identify thier own niche. They make fishing boots, but not the best. They make fly rods, but not the best or cheapest.

In the fishing industry the companies that are successful strongly excell at one or only a few things and grab temendous marketshare in that niche.

Think fly rods--think loomis or Sage
Think Reels maybe Ross
Apparel Simms

Reddington kind of throws alot out there but not much really sticks. Sage might see it as a way to gain more customers or to try and make the leap into other products without breaking the bank to buy a larger company.

I think Sage just bought a chunk of market share- or hope they have!

I'm surprised that someone bought Redington.  I never cared much for their rods.
