Small or large flies?

Post by Brookie » Thu May 22, 2003 4:19 pm

Hi. You know how some people say that larger flies or even lures
attract larger fish. Do you think that's true?
Do you cast large flies for trout?

I have always used small flies, except wollybuggers.

I guess if all I can attract are little stockers, I would put on something too large for them so I don't spend all day playing with little fish. But lots of big steelhead get caught on no. 12 glo eggs, so a small fly doesn't mean just small fish. I use this idea for pan fish. Put on a hook that nothing small than a 1 pounder can get it's mouth around and you won't have to release any palm sized babes.
