Yes...In my opinion, the rod is the most important part of the setup and if you like fly fishing you will own several in different lengths and for different weights. The price of this rod is why I say yes but this is a 5 wt and may not be what you need depending on the type of fishing you plan on doing. I would normally recommend a 6 wt as a starter rod in the $120-180 range...but go for it and upgrade once you know more about the differences in rods.
