What size all-around line do you use for big baits?
What size all-around line do you use for big baits?
I am trying out some 22 lb. Sunline Armilo line for chucking big baits.
Do you have a particular line that you use all-around for swimbaits? Or, do you use braid for some and heavy mono for others?

Depends if your swimbait is truly a wakebait or not. If it is, braid might be your best bet, otherwise you're on the right track.

Bulk spools of YZ Hybrid, usually 20lb. Get it on the cheap and you can respool as often as you want.

20-30#pline cxx depends on what species to target but I have tied on a hardgill on 30lb and still caught avg size bass on it

Thinking of both, really. I have a few "floaters" and wake baits to try out along w/"swimmers" like the Hudd's and 3:16's and Deps.GOOD YEAR 71 wrote:Depends if your swimbait is truly a wakebait or not. If it is, braid might be your best bet, otherwise you're on the right track.
I am looking for all around and like the properties of the Armilo thus far when using topwater plugs or smaller crankbaits. I would prefer to use an all-around and have that rod/reel as a dedicated big bait setup.

Sounds reasonable. I'm sure your choice of 22 Armilo will do just fine. Only one way to find out...

80 lb Samurai with 20 lb CXX leader for the bulk of it. Deps 250 and 10" Triple Trout get straight 25 lb CXX. That is all.
Re: What size all-around line do you use for big baits?
I use the P-Line CXXX 20 to25# for the smaller baits up to 2.5oz a30# for the heavier baits.
Re: What size all-around line do you use for big baits?
20-30 cxx is going to be your most commonly used line, its cheap and it works. I use 20 for most my baits, and 30 for the mother/hinkle. The only and I mean only baits I throw with braid is a weedless hud, I use heavy braid with a 20 #flouro leader. ive tried straight flouro for huds but its too expensive and smallest nicks in your lines will cause break offs on hook sets.... happened 2x this year on big fish to me.

30 lb however I look for smaller diameter 30 # ; ) Use it for 6" if I ever use 6" up to 10"+ 30 lb PF coploymer works great for top water , floats nice enough and I fish it as deep as 60' too
20lb cxx is about the same diameter as 30 PF I believe
