rod for roman made mother

Post by hookfynn » Sun Sep 22, 2013 9:32 am

probably shoulda picked up a rod before hand but I got a smoken deal on a Mother from a friend and couldn't pass it up. looking at rods and don't wanna spend a whole ton of money on it. was wondering if anyone thinks the G. Loomis GL2 Swimbait Rod 7'11" XH 957C SWB would work. its rated to 10oz. either that or I was thinking the Irod jumbo swimbait rod. thoughts?

About how much you looking to spend? I believe Roman Made has their own rod for this bait but it's probably high dollar.

Other than that I'd say either a Dobyns 867 or a 908.

Another brand that swimbaiters rave about are the Low Down Custom (LDC) rods.

And lastly, the nod for budget friendly goes to Tackle Industries musky rods. I have heard nothing but good things about them, I've considered one myself.

Hope this helps.

Only factory rods would be an Okuma EVX Musky or a Dobyns 908. Other than that, you'd really need to go custom.

Second motion on Dobyns 908.

thanks for your reply. sent an email to the guys at LDC and they go back to me. ill probably go with theres even though its a tad pricey. good news is I can customize it the way I want and its a parabolic rod as well. so it should be a little forgiving. thanks again!

I hear that the main man over there is excellent to deal with as are their rods. I'm sure you will be VERY happy with what you get.

Talk to Ben Dehnadi of LDC and get yourself the last big rod you will need....
