I like the Gan Craft Jointed Claw 178 SS.
Smaller than that is like finesse

Not so long ago I came across an article written by the guy that came up with the word swimbait and somehow in is mind, a swimbait was something 6 or more inches.dragon1 wrote:Buzzjet...swimming wake bait.
Please understand that the buzzjet is an amazing lure but is a surface crankbait or a topwater.
The swimbait takes advantage of big size to attract bass, something the buzzjet doesn't have.
Anyway, just my view of things.

"Swimbait" likely started with a grub or a lure like the Sassy Shad.

But I get ya...so then, the 6" Triple Trout. Even though, in my personal experience, the 1oz Buzzjet, while shorter, moves more water, creates more commotion, and draws larger bass than the 6" TT.

The BuzzJet is special like most of the Deps lures.dragon1 wrote: But I get ya...so then, the 6" Triple Trout. Even though, in my personal experience, the 1oz Buzzjet, while shorter, moves more water, creates more commotion, and draws larger bass than the 6" TT.
You should try the Silent Killer 145 and 175
Or the BuzzJet jr. after the spawn and early summer:-#

I don't like that the Buzzjet Jr. is not a great casting lure...but have been intrigued by the Silent Killers!Carlos Carrapiço wrote:The BuzzJet is special like most of the Deps lures.dragon1 wrote: But I get ya...so then, the 6" Triple Trout. Not exactly under 2oz but pretty close. Got to be a Hudd 68. Bite size with the attitude of its bigger brother with that huge space displacing throbbing tail.
Having said that, the thought one normally gets when the word swimbait is mentioned is an 8" Hudd or larger size offering. If its not purposely targeting the alpha bass intent on large infrequent meals than you're just throwing oversize tournament offerings. Yes, smaller baits get big fish as I've experienced with a DD on my 5" Big EZ so called swimbait but one doesn't quickly associate the word with that bait.
If one is intending to replicate nature as best possible than perhaps a MattLures Bluegill fits the bill. Don't look more realistic than that and under 2oz.
Honestly, if someone isn't complimenting me on the nice catch then what I have hanging from my tip doesn't qualify as a swimbait. Lol

There's a great arguement for a different definition!GARRIGA wrote:Honestly, if someone isn't complimenting me on the nice catch then what I have hanging from my tip doesn't qualify as a swimbait. Lol

Black Dog shell cracker G2 and castaic baits are both under 2oz. The work great also.
Re: What's your favorite 2 oz. and under swimbait?
Great topic! Tough answer, lol.
Triton Mike's Bull Shad 5&6" (also 6" Herring). Probably caught more fish on this single brand bait than all my others combined!
For those who are looking for good baits that fit this description and are very productive, and I hope no one minds, but it's for the benefit of the newer folks to swimbaiting:
Evergreen's Esflat in 3Lips, MS Mini Slammer Black, Decoy HydraTail Gray Shad, Huddleston Weedless Shad and Minnow, Jerry Rago's Mini BV3D Pro Inline and SKT in 6", and last but not least a favorite topwater Bettencourts Rat Large in Brown and White
