Swimbait line?

Other than braid what size and brand of line do you like (mono/co-poly)for swimbaits?

currently fishing 50lb 832 with 7' 20lb seaguar blue label leader. Like it just fine.

Thanks,I'm hoping to get some mono or co-poly suggestions as I would like to be able to switch-up from throwing a sinking swimbait to a wake bait or other topwater.I would think the fluoro leader would tend to drag down the nose on a topwater but not really sure how it would affect those larger baits as I'm new to throwing any type of swimbait.

15lb - 20lb PLine CXX or 20lb -25lb Big Game if you want more stretch.

Anyone useing P Line PF ? It has a thin dia. compared to the CX or CXX. Along the lines of something like Sunline Supernatural but the PF is a co-poly.

I use to use Big Game line but for the last year have used P-Line CXX. There is really no reason that I changed except for some reason I like the P-Line better. No bad experiences with the Big Game Line. If I use Braid I use the Suffix 832 in 80# test,

The reasons I use the 80# test is it had big enough diameter not to dig back into the line on the reel spool and causes so many hangups. Also if I do get a backlash it is not as easly broken and the bait breaking the line when it hangs.

For the small swimbaits I will use in the P-Line CSS 17 to 20# test and for the medium swimbaits I use 20 to 25# test and the large swimbaits I use the 30# test P-Line.

Also I quit using leaders as it does not make a difference in the number of hits I get where I fish and it is a clear lake. This may not hold true for you. Just try it and see.

I use Triple Fish Camo Escent, P-line CXX, Berkley Big Game, and Maxima Ultragreen ... all in 20-25lb depending on what I'm throwing.

Like a few others I use Big Game 25lb. Super cheap, you get a ton of line, and I havent had any problems with it. I use 25lb for baits up to 6oz. Anything more than that and I use braid.

I use Power Pro 65# main and about 6-8' of Sufix Siege 20# mono, or just go all 20# Seige if you don't care for braid. Night fishing during the summer just gets straight braid.

Consider Sufix Tritanium Plus in 20/25/30# test depending on weight of lure or desired action. Best copolymer I've used and like it better than Big Game or CXX. Very good knot strength and ability to cinch down plus formulated for abrasion resistance. Been using in salt and fresh since 99.

I personally like Sufix Superior in 15lb - 20lb test...just an awesomely strong and durable line.

I use 20lb Toray FC SuperHard Upgrade.
Great abrasion resistance and sensitivity and still has a little bit o stretch when a cast goes wrong.

I thought about a good fluoro, but that's a lot of expensive fluoro for such a power tech. Also, does the Toray SH effect topwaters?

I do like Toray SH 14lb for leader material on my jigs and plastics rods.

With the incredible expense associated with many of my swimbaits, I've stopped buying cheaper lines. It simply makes no sense to. I've seen too many baits go to their watery graves because of it. Now I use the best I can afford.

Suffix 832 in 80# for topwaters or Berkley Big Game 25-30#; for any sinking baits I use only Seaguar Tatsu 25# on a 25 yard leader with 65# Berkley Fireline. The Fireline seems to handle knots much better with the flouro leader than the Suffix 832 which seems to be a tad more abrasive. I use an loop to loop knot (very small profile) if I have the time or a modified Alberto knot when I don't for my leader knot. I use a slight application of Gorilla instant glue on to of the knot because the glue has flex in it when it hardens which lasts longer and protects the knot.

Anyway, if you love your swimbaits, take the time to learn to tie the right kind of knots and buy decent lines to tie those knots! It makes little sense to spend all kinds of money on the best swimbaits, reels, and rods only to limit your success with cheap lines and big bulky, bad knots.
