Spro BBZ

Post by mcha16 » Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:12 pm

I have the spro bbz-1 6" shad and i dont know if im working it right.
is it best to swim it slowly or go fast?
its really cold atm, and its a slow sink version.
i really want to catch a bass with it but...
maybe im working it wrong?
or is it because im using light green braid with no leader?

Check out matt allens video's on tactical bass. The hard jointed baits are best used in warmer water. The hud style tail is best for the coldest water. I have been looking at my BBZ trout and want to use it bad myself, just waiting for some warmer water.

It is possible to catch fish on hard baits in cold water, just be sure to fish really slow or really fast. I would however, recommend fishing a Hudd over anything else.

I agree they will hit a hardbait in cold water, just work it slow. Are you throwing it in open water or around ambush points? Ou got to throw where the fish are.

I too would recommend a hudd.

Ive been bit well on hudd 68's if you low SLOW roll them. Dead stick. Slow roll DEAD stick. , etc.

There are a few new videos showing guys even slamming fish up here in NJ on 3:16 topwaters while ice is on the water - crazy but true. Some nice pigs too. Go figure :-s , but its on numerous videos.

Cant speak to the Spr-BBZ - but there are swimbaits that get bit even in dead of winter

Don't give up on the BBZ it's an excellent swimbait. I'm more confident with this bait with a water temp that is 50 degrees or warmer though it will probably work in a little cooler water as well. That said as the other posters have pointed out you will probably have better success with boot style soft plastic swimbaits like the Hudd baits or those made by Real prey when fishing cooler water.
