2-pc swimbait rod?

Post by bpm2000 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 10:18 am

Is there such a thing? Transport issues limit me to 2pc rods and I cant seem to find anything out there!

Am I going to have to get a builder to cut a 1-pc into two?

thx!

I had a Major Craft Days DC-702X - 7 ft, 2 piece, rated for 3/8 - 3 oz. i wish I could give a feedback on the performance of the rod but I had to sell it even though I never had a chance to fish it. I really wish I could have kept that rod.

Major Craft also has 702X in the Beneyro line.

Sorry I can't give you a whole lot of help.

Mike

hmm w/ that pricetag + shipping import it is making a custom sound reasonable now. Ugh I wish I could just use a 1pc $99 Okuma and be done with it.

thx for the info!

You're probably going to have buy the Okuma rod, take it to a rod builder and they will make it into a 2 pc design. I'm thinking it will work for you and probably cost you much less than buying a new expensive one.

Shipping on that rod wasn't too bad Total cost from Plat including shipping and fees was about was about $210.

Hmm that isn't too horrible after all. I'll price out my custom through some people and see how it matches up.

How are the components on those rods?

Spiroh - it seems like most builders I've talked to don't like to do the 1 to 2pc conversions unless I REALLY want it.

Then say you REALLY want it  I had Mattman make me a two-piece rod from a St. Croix 5C68MXF that is now paired with a TD Sol. It's my favorite rig. Getting a blank converted to 2-pc is gonna cost more and you will lose the warranty on the blank but there's not much multi-piece options out there so sometimes it's the only route to take.

I'm also considering a rod for swimbait and just like you, I'm looking for a 2-piece. I hope other people will come up with some more suggestions.

Just want to add, I was initially excited about the 2-pc Steez STZ802HFBA but from the pictures I've seen, it seems the joint is just above the handle and so the section lengths are not 50/50. I'm wondering about the length of the longer section.

Components are Fuji Stainless steel framed SiC double-footed guides. Fuji Reel seat, I think.

Here are a couple of pics.

I really miss this rod. Weird, since I never fished it. it was fairly light and the 2 piece thing makes it easy to transport. I also have a Crucial stick but I find that the 7'11" is too long for my taste, and too difficult to transport.

Man that thing is sexxy

Ive decided to go custom for now - but I will be keeping an eye on those M.Craft rods in the future.

It seems weird with all the shore-bound anglers in Japan that there arn't more heavy 2-pc options.. or maybe I just dont know where to look.

Anyways, I'm having it built off the Rainshadow SW967F.

Shorebound: yea a lot of the 2-pc I see coming out of JDM is just at the handle...
