which swimbait was that? saw on b.a.s.s

Post by fishboy » Mon May 07, 2007 8:06 pm

was watching a b.a.s.s show on amistad and one of the guys was using a swimbait alot like a mattlure or similar but this one had like a brass (or something) tube thru it from forehead to belly and the line went thru this where to bait could ride up and down the line.

it does seem like that would save wear and tear on the bait

that's the 3:16 Mission Fish... supposedly the very first weedless swimbait... and a very very popular bait.

With the way the hook is rigged in that picture, it doesn't seem like the bait could ride up the line upon hookup. If you visit the below website, you can find some of the baits that do ride up the line (shad, rising sun, K-9 to name a few). I personally haven't tried any of these swimbaits, so I can't attest to their effectiveness, but I am planning to purchase a few in the next week or so. If anyone has used this brand, please post a review for all to read.

I miss-read the "brass tube" comment.. i was thinking "weight in the head" ...

The ones HR pointed out are probably closer to what you were talking about though I don't know if 3:16 uses a metal tube in those particular baits to get the line through.

This company features a metal tube in their swimbait bodies: California Swimbabes but they don't really look like a MattLures Bait

Another one to look into might be the Osprey.

maybe it was mike icc using the "baby e" nonweighted that i saw.

on californiaswimbabes look at a pic of the "baby e" and you will see what i mean.

what is the "tube" in it-line go thru?

yes... it just provides a path for the line to go through.. here's a rigging photo from their site:
