2024 Shimano SLX 70 Question

Post by Ghost » Mon Jan 29, 2024 1:47 pm

I have the Shimano SLX MGL 70 Casting Reel. I am curious is the frames are the same.

I'm interested with the 2024 SLX 70, if there's much difference from that and the SLX MGL 70. I know the 2024 model has Silent Tune and weight differences is minimal.

Would it be worth getting the new SLX if I have the SLX MGL 70?

Silent Tune and MGL III spool should improve the casting performance, especially with lighter lures. I am not sure if they share the same frame tooling or not. I have not had a chance to see one in person yet.

Hi Bantam1, I am curious if the 2024 SLX 70 is a smaller Frame than the SLX MGL 70. Or are both similar frames?

I was able to confirm the changes are Silent Tune and new MGL III spool. The frame and side plates are the same. So better casting performance overall will be the major difference.

Thank you Bantam1! As much as I'd like to get the new SLX 70, if there is no change to frame size, then I'll stick with my SLX MGL 70. It performs quite well for me. Thank you again, Sir!
