A lot of discontinued parts on fishshop.shimano
I think I heard Shimano is moving to global parts numbers. Is that why a lot of parts are listed as "discontinued" until the website gets updated? For example, the Curado K 200XG drive gear shows as discontinued. BNT5688 >> 10SRN. The part really isn't discontinued already, is it?
Re: A lot of discontinued parts on fishshop.shimano
Because of the part number change it is showing as discontinued. The new part numbers (5 digit global) are the correct numbers going forward. It's a long tedious process to change everything over. The gear itself is not discontinued. We are using up stock of the old part numbers if we still have them in stock. If you see discontinued and >> xxxxx it means use the new number. If you are having some issues call our customer service at 877-577-0600. There are some parts with the new numbers that are on backorder. Please be aware of that. We are doing our best to get parts rushed here but so far it has not been happening as quick as we would like.
If you are ordering from the website make sure you order whatever is available. There is a mix of part numbers currently as the transition takes place. It's a little bit of a mess but they are trying to get everything sorted and moved into the new numbers. The system used in the warehouse for parts locations and picking requires a long manual process to change everything over. Since there are well over 25,000 part numbers being stocked, it will take a while to get it all completed. They cannot shut the system down for picking to make all the changes. It also houses parts for the bike side of the business. It is being done in small steps to ensure parts can be picked and shipped daily. If they were to shut down completely it would take about 5-6 weeks to perform all of the data entry and location changes needed.
