Metanium mgl squeal.

Post by Real Pudd legend »

I have a Metanium mgl and it’s very smooth , but something weird has been occurring as of late. I put a drop of oil in the side plate bearing , spool bearing and cast control cap bearing. The next day I go out and cast and the reel squeals but after about 5-6 casts it goes away and is normal again . This same thing happens every time I take it out , after 5-6 casts it goes away and is perfectly quiet. Any ideas ? I put a drop of oil on the brake drum so I know it’s not the brakes etc.

is it a bad bearing? Spool or XSHIP ?

Reel was quiet beforehand ..

Did you try taking out the spool and cleaning around it, both on the spool itself and the frame??? Might be a dumb question for me to ask, but that has helped me a few times with weird and similar problems on many different reels...

I suspect its the bearing on the spool. These are oil filled bearings and typically the one that will become noisy.

I did , everything seems clean and good to go. I believe it is the spool bearing

Just bring it by and one of the guys will take a look at it. I'll be out the next two weeks.
