Curado K....5 gear ratio?

Post by Scuba Scott » Wed Oct 10, 2018 5:40 am

Is there a chance we will see this as an option in the future? I understand that sales of the 5 gear ratio are far below the 6,7,8 gear ratios. Even if there are no plans for a 5 gear Curado K, it would be a nice option to offer the gear sets for those people who still prefer power gears for deep cranking and other techniques. I have tried to make myself a 6 gear guy for deep cranking. I keep going back to the Shimano Chronarch E 5.5 which is a great option and in my opinion the perfect speed. I would just like to see the current K reel in the 5.5 ratio as well.

I'm not sure. The problem with 5:xx gear ratio reels is they do not sell well. The trend is faster and faster and the sales number reflect that. Even the 6 gear ratio reels are slowing down...so I'm not sure what the future will bring.

I’d be another voter for a 5.xx ratio k. An option is buying a jdm bantam with the “pg” gear. Probably the route I’ll take.

Would it be a realistic option to offer gear sets in a 5.5? That would at least give those few an option without the need to mass produce a curado k in a power gear.

Tooling up to cut gears is not cheap either.

I still own a 1977 Quick Champion 700B baitcaster that, with just a 4.7:1 ratio, retrieves 2" more per handle turn than my Curado 200E5. The key is its larger-diameter spool.

I don't use it any more, for a number of reasons. Does anyone know of a modern cranking reel with a ratio of 5.4:1 or below, a spool diameter of 35 mm or more, a brass main gear, and a weight of 7.5 oz. or less?

I have the curado 200i PG and love it.

this might be the last low profile 5:X ratio reel available from shimano in North America, its already outdated :(
