There are several improvements for this DC system for use in saltwater and ease of use. Is it an Antares/Calais DC? No. You pick it up, select your setting and go fishing. Most anglers will be using this reel in the 2 or 3 setting. It covers a wide range of lures and line types within these settings.

Maybe once you try one your opinion will change. Early fuel injection on vehicles was considered a step backwards. Look where we are today.

Outdated would be the original, one setting, non-learning, DC system. With each new iteration of DC reel, Shimano tinkers with the system and how it operates. You might not like it, and that's fine. But please, let's not troll a discussion topic of a reel you haven't laid your hands on or has even yet to be released.

Hi Bantam,

How so for saltwater?

Btw, how far back did the K receive the running upgrade to thumb bar, and that extra O ring?

This DC unit is completely sealed compared to other DC units. We have been testing this version in saltwater since November of last year. Zero issues to date.

Not sure the exact timeline of the second running change for the button. The person i need to ask is out of town for our national sales meeting. What O-ring are you asking about?

I can’t wait. Just .2 oz heavier than current curado k.
Should be a great reel.

Are DC reels good for flipping and pitching, or best suited to long casting and skipping?

You can flip and pitch with them, but if making very short pitches the braking may not work. The DC requires a certain spool RPM before the braking system works. It is a low RPM but it can still be higher than what the spool will see on a very short pitch.

It's pointless for that application.

Right?!? Dangit Cal...sounds like I might have to buy a new T-rig/jig rod for nighttime fishing now. Lol.

It's difficult to tell from a still photo, but this photo was taken mid-cast. Full effort, one hand on rod, no thumb on spool... all... through... the entire cast until the bait hit the water and then some.

Sweet goodness.....

This is one time I’m bummed about using lefty reels. Waiting for a 150 would be bad enough but the 151 in September is going to try my patience. I haven’t been this pumped over a reel in years.
