Different reels. 2018 Curado DC is the latest generation with an entirely new DC unit, MicroModule gears, Cross Carbon drag, etc.

Hey Dan, is there any difference between the DC system in this new Curado reel vs the one in the 2016 Antares DC? Improved?

The Antares uses the 4x8 DC system with 32 settings. The Curado has is I-DC 4 with 4 settings.

With the Curado DC, is there no internal dial setting to choose between Braid, Nylon, and Fluorocarbon lines anymore, and all just controlled externally via the brake settings?

Sorry, I'm not that schooled on the DC systems, is one better than the other? 32 sounds better than 4, but I don't want to assume.

You can read about I-DC5 (not the same but similar to the Curado's system) in the Scorpion DC Review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewshim17scorpdc.html

And 4x8 DC in the Antares review: http://www.tackletour.com/review16shimantaresdc.html

Thanks Cal, I had seen your review of the Antares 16 DC, but wasn't really up to snuff on the DC4 nor DC5. Wasn't sure if there was some upgrade to the DC system that is a couple years newer (DC4). I've been babysitting my mailbox in anticipation of an Antares 16 HG DC the last few days, and I wanted to be sure I didn't spend $300 more for something now with older technology.

Oh ok, so you're the one

Important to note it's I-DC4 and I-DC5 not just DC4 and DC5 .. the "I" stands for "intelligent" because the systems supposedly learn and adapt to your casting style.
