Worm gear pawl question
Every shimano reel I've ever cleaned has the back side threaded. I'm just wondering what the point is, and what size or type screw/tool goes in there?
Re: Worm gear pawl question
I do not know the thread sizing. This goes back to older model reels where the threads were used to aid in installation of the pawl during assembly. I have an old side plate screw for one of our older baitcast reels that happens to fit those threads. I couldn't tell you which model because I found it years ago.

I think that little hole will help to reduce the weight a bit and improve the worm gear movingBantam1 wrote:I do not know the thread sizing. Ben ...the shimano fan

Weight will not affect the performance of the pawl. The weight reduction will be very small.

Re: Worm gear pawl question
It is for pawl removal. The threading matches cover screws for that reel. Screw a cover screw into the pawl and pull it out.lifeofRiley wrote:Every shimano reel I've ever cleaned has the back side threaded. I'm just wondering what the point is, and what size or type screw/tool goes in there?
Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?
