Drilled spools - teflon tape required

Post by Hulkster » Tue Sep 05, 2017 10:26 am

Hi Bantam, is it still recommended to use a wrap of a Teflon type tape at the base of drilled baitcaster spools (eg. on the curado 200i for example)?

to keep water out of the bearings of the reel? or because I think most of the bearings are sealed now on models like the curado this is not required? or maybe it was never required but it seems like people used to do it.

please advise. thanks

The tape doesn't help keep water out of the reel in any way. Tape is needed to prevent braided line from slipping on the spool. Aside from that there is no benefit to covering the holes.
