5 ratio reels are going extinctHulkster wrote:any plans for a 5:x ratio reel? I have the 200i PG and really like it for big cranks and big blade baits like spinnerbaits and big inline spinners like the Mepps #5 for pike.
but I would love to try out the new second generation SVS infinity system that everyone says is so much better than the first generation! I believe the upgraded system is on the Curado 70, but it wasn't on the 200i

Re: New Curado 200/201K
I could care less about a 5 speed reel now. My Revo Winch Gen 3 was a great reel, just sold it though cause I can't fish a reel that slow on our shallow (15ft max) river system. I crank with a 7.3 Zillion TWS or Tatula HD 7.3 right now. Would prefer a faster 6 speed (like the 28 IPT 6.3 Zillion TWS) but just stick with what I have for now. I still fully plan on trying a Shimano after taking a second Zillion SV over the Chronarch MGL, but not sure which it will be.
Why was brass/metal overlooked as material for the levelwind gear on this workhorse reel? Then again, I have never seen a Curado 70 worm shaft fail and seen them land some monster fish...

Maybe us 5:1 guys are a dying breed, but I love a good slow reel. Honestly, I fish my Cavitron buzzbaits with a 201E5. The 5 speed gives the bait a different sound that a higher speed 7:1 reel. I also get a different bubble trail as well.

I'm wondering if the gear sets will interchange. I priced all the parts to convert a higher speed 200i over to a PG. Less than 30 dollars from Shimano. When my 200k XG gets here, I may do the swap and see.

The gear sets between the K models will swap, but gears from the I will not work in the K. The K has micro module gears which are different dimensions.

Good point. I forgot Shimano put the Micro in the K. What if you did both the pinion and main gear swap?Bantam1 wrote:The gear sets between the K models will swap, but gears from the I will not work in the K. The K has micro module gears which are different dimensions.
One thing I noticed is the K gear case looks much different than the I. The more I think about it, the more I'm thinking not.

Keep in mind Rock, the body is advertised as 10% smaller, which is probably why we can't fit other gears in it...rockchalk06 wrote:One thing I noticed is the K gear case looks much different than the I. Re: New Curado 200/201K
The MM gear set requires a different tolerance for gear alignment and they are very exact tolerances. Given the gears are different sizes, and the reel is completely new tooling, they will not work correctly. They may physically fit, but I assure you they will not feel good if they do fit.

Will these gears fit other reels with MM gears, such as the 13 Met?Bantam1 wrote:The MM gear set requires a different tolerance for gear alignment and they are very exact tolerances. I don't know. I haven't tried and we do not have gears in stock for Curado K yet.
Re: New Curado 200/201K
Is the new added bearing on the main shaft behind the main gear or in front? I know total there is a roller bearing and 2 ball bearings on the main shaft, just wondering the locations. I really wish I could find an engineering job for a company, been tooling some things and testing some garage prototypes for designs. I know X-Ship combined with a dual supported main gear on top of micro module gears should be impressive. I just wonder because Shimano reels have always been smooth even without 2 bearings on the main shaft, so this should be even better.Bantam1 wrote:I don't know. I believe it's outside the ARB, outward from the center of the reel. I haven't taken mine apart yet but I've got to believe it's in the same spot as my CH MGL.DirtyD64 wrote:Is the new added bearing on the main shaft behind the main gear or in front? ex.
Inside >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Outside
(Drive shaft bearing)>(Main Gear)>(ARB)>(New bearing on drive shaft)
Re: New Curado 200/201K
The other bearing is above the roller bearing like the CH-MGL and Metanium.
