light weight reel maintenance

Post by mark poulson » Tue Jun 27, 2017 8:36 am

Bantam,
Has Shimano seen an increase in maintenance issues with the move to lighter reels?
Do lighter baitcasters need more maintenance in general because of the materials used to achieve the lighter weights?
Thanks in advance.

Nothing has changed with maintenance. The aluminum drive gear does wear a little faster, so we suggest more frequent maintenance when using the reel for harder use applications.

Thanks.
What grease does Shimano recommend for aluminum gears?
