Calais 100A Squeal ??
Calais 100A Squeal ??
Can anybody help me please.
My Calais 100A has a loud squeal that will not let me fish.
The real funny thing is that I have addressed all the things, you think the issue would be.
Like, took out the side plate bearing, the knob tension bearing,Clean them with lighter fluid dried and oiled them, changed the weights, cleaned and oiled the Pinion Gear bearing, oiled the race track that the weights slide on. Clean the inside spool track.
Im at a total loss, Know a few things on reel maintenance but can not figure this one out.
the Wiffle spool has lost a little color on the top sides of the spool, can it be that is rubbing during the cast??

Re: Calais 100A Squeal ??
put a drop of oil on each brake weight, turn on/off then dab off excess with qtip.
That should do it.

I had the same problem with that reel - one of the brake blocks had been bent out of shape which was hard to see (not circular in cross section).
Re: Calais 100A Squeal ??
check the metal brake posts that the brake weights snap into. sometimes they get a little loose and end up scratching on the brake drum.
Re: Calais 100A Squeal ??
Try replacing the brakes with some of the spares that came in the box with the reel. Apply a drop of oil to each as someone else mentioned. See if the noise stops. If not then it could be a bad bearing. Just because you cleaned it and oiled it does not mean the bearing is good.
Re: Calais 100A Squeal ??
Easy fix... Box it up and send it to Shimano... They take care of their Calais customers very well. I owned about 10 of them a few years back, and everytime I had any issues at all, I'd box it up and have it back in just a few days... They will take care of the problem.....
