Are they being phased out and replaced by a split grip version?

Yep! The NEW Crucials feature a split foam grip, custom split reel seat designed by Shimano. No longer a Fuji reel seat but its very nice and increases contact between fingers and blank. However they did keep the Fuji Alconite guides. Also a upgrade in IM rating from IM9 to IM10 similar to that used on cumara. Also new is they are application specific.
Compre recieved a face lift as well of IM8 to IM9. Grip and seat same as Crucial but now has Fuji Alconite guides as well. 8-)
