how long should this bearing spin for if flicked with your finger.

Actually the better the bearing is the LESS time it will spin under its own weight. Just make sure it is clean and oiled up properly and it should be good to go. ;)

Yeah, Bass Pro is correct! You want to spin a bearing to make sure there's no grit in it, but the longer it spins dry the more wear it has. It really doesn't matter. Once it's oiled it's not going to spin long anyway. Just matters how smooth it is to reduce friction. Later!

shadow and basspro thanks for your response .
as you might be able to see in the pic I sanded the ends of the spool shafts and polished them with brasso and that has really made a difference. I also discovered a light "scratch" on the end of the spool shaft , in above pic , since polishing it up it seems to be better but i will have to get onto the water to really test it.

Alot of people have been "super-tuning" different brands of reels for awhile now. Polishing shafts, friction rings (in models with centrifugal braking systems), etc. are certainly ways to decrease friction and slightly improve performance. With the newer Daiwa baitcasters there's really not much to improve on. With the Magforce V and Z systems as well as the breakaway pinion design all friction is really eliminated, but I guess every little bit can help. Later!
