JIS screw driver set

Post by garza7585 » Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:55 am

After having my first battle with a Daiwa “death screw” I figured there had to be a better way. Some of my research pointed me to JIS screw drivers since Daiwa is a japanese company.

Anyone in here have a good set they’d recommend? Theres gotta be a way to remove that sucker without drilling and extracting.

wiha precision set
wera precision set

both perform great and you'll never strip out a screw/allen/torx /w them. I use both due to how I like to grip certain drivers with certain applications.

use something from that set 99% of the time I work on reels.

You can usually find each set for sub 40$

Don’t be afraid to fire up the ol soldering iron and put some heat on those death screws. Had to do that on one stubborn screw the other day even with Wera precisions.

It's because of the red lock tite they seem to love to apply to certain screws.

Heat that up a touch and it'll loosen without the need of harsh language or expensive screwdrivers, which may slip and pass through post parts.

I have couple Daiwa “death” screws in the handle knobs, no way I can heat up these screws.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.

Solder tip to the centre of the screw head, just don't melt the surrounding part.

The green Vessel screwdriver in size #1 is perfect for the death screw.

Ordered the Vessel Green +1 with my corporate cc, we will see how it's going to unscrew couple of my "death" screws.

I've done 3 reels this week, drill, extractor method, and ordered 20 death screws from Daiwa lol.

Received yesterday the Vessel JIS screwdriver with a JAWSFIT tip to handle couple Daiwa's death screws, I had on my brand new Daiwa T3 SV TW reel I bought a month ago, and it worked like a dream! Could not unscrew using WIHA and WERA screwdrivers.
The screws had a blue loctite on them.
Kudos to MisterQ!

My Wiha drivers haven't had a problem with the death screw. There is a lot of old info on here about the death screw. I hope that you can access it. I know a lot of the old stuff is no longer accessible.

Wera 05008710001 Kraftform Plus 350 PH Phillips Screwdriver, Lasertip, PH 1 Head, 3-1/8" Blade Length https://a.co/d/fdAovCr

I really haven't had any issues with my Wiha, just need strong pressure on the screw and turn SLOW...that said, this Wera model with the laster cut tip is much better for gripping.

I ordered a green Vessel #1 as well, and what a game changer for the death screw and handle knob screws.

I always have the drill and extract method if needed and since i've done so many recently I've got it down pat.

Another vote for the Vessel #1. I tried some of the others and still had issues getting screws out/stripping but the Vessel has been solid. Was even able to get a stripped screw out with it.
