Steez A TW HLC mod

Post by Johnny A » Mon Jul 10, 2023 5:51 am

A few weeks back, I thought I'd sold my Steez A TW HLC, unfortunately, the deal fell through and I honestly couldn't lower my price any further soooooo, I remembered seeing on board sponsor japantackle.com a "mild" spool for the HLC. My problem wasn't as much finding the spool was "wild", I just wasn't using the heavy baits the reel was designed to use.
I did the "Hail Mary" and ordered the spool. Boy, am I glad I did! The difference between the two spools was night and day, like a totally different reel. My first cast with the "mild" spool, I forgot to adjust the mag brake, I had dialed it down to "0". I was using a RAID Japan Gravity impact swim bait, ball park weight about 1 1/2 oz. Made the cast, mild overrun but nothing difficult. I adjusted the brake to "10" and let fly. What a difference a spool made! Smooth, good distance, no overrun at all.
Extremely happy now.
Not saying I would purchase another Steez HLC, but the mild spool really pulled the nuts from the embers.

Sounds good! And also sounds that Steez A HLC spool behaves very similar to OG HLC Zillion spool. Actually there should be more spools to fit to these reels:
36 mm Narrow: The TD Zilllion, TD Fuego, TDZ, Steez A HLC, Daiwa BBS http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php ... 4&start=15

I picked up a "mild" Steez A HLC spool a few months back and popped it into an OG Zillion Limited I had just got and I have been loving it. I've been throwing crawlers like the RAID Dodge, mag draft 6" and 3/4 jackhammers with big trailers and have been getting great distance with next to no issues. Definitely recommend this spool.

Anyone have a link to this unicorn spool? Sounds like something I need to try.

Thanks for the link!

I like my J-Dream and HLC spools (the wiffle one at least). I did modify the J-Dream to take a Ray's Studios SV inductor to free it up.

He installed Zillion HD indicator and selling spool for 120$
You can buy inductor + spool springs from Zillion HD for 20$

A Daiwa spool runs about $80-$100, the spring is another $20. I paid and it works.

Just a quick follow up, I was casting a weightless O.S.P DoLive 4.5", probably ~ 1/4-5/16 oz. I am extremely happy with the mild spool.

I should have asked your price but i was not driven to get you to sell it. I thought you would enjoy it as I do mine

It's not that I don't like the HLC, I just like the A II a whole lot.
