Spool Question
Spool Question
I have a TDZ 103ML. I want to put my newer SV103 spool in the 103ML, but the spool shaft is larger on the 103ML than the SV103 spool, where it goes into the pinion gear. Will this cause a problem? Like any slop or moving around? I know the pin is supported in the gear.
The TDZ 103ML spool is on the left, the SV103 on the right.
The TDZ 103ML spool is on the left, the SV103 on the right.
Re: Spool Question
I have used different diameter short shafts spools in my reels. Never had any issue. It's the bearings which supports spool (and tips of shaft). That shaft end just goes inside to pinion gear.
Re: Spool Question
You know, you're right lol. It is the bearing and pin that supports the spools. Thanks
Re: Spool Question
Yeh, that pin couples it to pinion gear. And in my reels pinion has set Ok to different diameter shaft ends.

Re: Spool Question
Most of the replacement spools with the narrower axles have slightly smaller spool pins also. It seems to make the spools have some ability to rotate forward and back a bit when the handle is held in place. Under load it doesn't make any difference, but it might about some users in slack line presentations.
Re: Spool Question
Trying to post a picture of my own concerning this. I used a Zillion SV TW spool in its stock reel, a Steez A, and an SS/SV, I also used a Steez A spool in the same reels. The Steez had a significantly wider spool shaft than the Zillion SV TW spool did. All reels seemed to handle both spools absolutely fine. I would assume the larger diameter spool shaft would be better just due to a tighter fit, but I couldn't tell the difference if I hadn't have known. I am trying to post a picture from postimg.cc but for some reason I cannot access the website right now...
