Drag Star modification

Post by goldrod » Fri Jan 28, 2022 8:36 am

Im looking to take the bottom star and use it on a reel that takes the top star with the grove cut in it.
Is this possible or not?
If so whats your approach ?

There is a plate that fits into the grove on the top star between the star and handle. Just dont use that plate. I think that plate is just to reduce the appearance of a gap between the handle and star when the drag is locked down.

Look for the TD-Z handle washers, it's a thin version of the spacer that you're talking about, just without the shoulder that fits into that groove. That will buffer been the handle and the step on the driveshaft.

Most of the reels with the nut and spring underneath have extra length on the drive shaft to accommodate it. Most reels that come with a threaded star won't have enough shaft length to allow proper drag adjustment.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I have some TDZ washers I’m pretty sure. Let me know I’ll drop one in the mail.

Correct

However what I was experimenting with was putting a different star on a reel like that which that piece would be obsolete
