Degreaser for gear set

Post by johnD » Mon Dec 16, 2019 1:34 pm

What's the best cleaner that won't leave a residue on a gear set , it seems some degreasers leave a residue that the new grease doesn't want to stick too. I've heard crc electronic cleaner , but that can get expensive.
Thoughts ? Thanks in advanced.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner with a degreaser like Simple Green, then I rinse with hot water and last step is the final degrease in a jar with acetone.
Acetone is cheap and super effective on bearings too.

I do the same as above, except my final cleaning in the ultrasonic is naphtha in a small jar with the lid lightly screwed on.
