Cleaning Saltwater Reels

I've heard about wiping down the exterior of reels used in SW with WD40, but am concerned it'll break down the oils. Will ReelX (CorrosionX), be a better choice?

Just like with guns, and light application of Remoil to a rag and wipe it down will do the trick.
