Thinking about upgrading two of my 6.3 OG left hand Steez's with the 7.1 gearsets available from TackleTrap - does anyone happen to know what the IPT will work out to be after the upgrade? I called TT and they were not sure.
For reference, the listed IPT for the Steez factory 6.3 is 26" and the factory 7.1 is 29.5, but I measure my 6.3's closer to 24-25 IPT so I would suspect the factory 7.1 is similarly a bit lower than the advertised 29.5.
I have that same gearset in a TD-Z and it measures out at about 28", so I am thinking the Steez would wind up the same?

It'll be exactly the same as your TD-Z.

So I picked up a 7.1 OG Steez, rated 29.5 IPT and measures out about 2" shy of advertised, which is similar to the 6.3 version as well. Actually I find most reels don't meet the advertised number - not sure if there is any kind of industry standard but it's just something I've come to accept. Not just Daiwa, I've seen it with other brands as well. I usually fill at least 1/8" low from the spool edge, maybe the manf's are measuring with completely full spool to eek out all they can .

Should be fairly easy to calculate. Just need an accurate spool diameter. Calculated at the very lip, line retrieved per crank would be 29.8ish inches with a 7.1 ratio. Dont know how critical it is though. Manufacturers can only supply certain info, line diameter, spool fill by user will vary. Accuracy of the calculations will also contribute to some extent.
