Stradic 2500 FJ Question- gears rough but....*puzzling*

Post by r61 » Sat Oct 13, 2018 5:20 am

Hey all,

I have been scratching my head about an issue I have never experienced before. I have recently service a Stradic 2500fj , and it is buttery smooth with the anti reverse disengaged when I back reel. But, when I reel forward normally, anti reverse lever engaged or disengaged, I get a Geary feel.

Any thoughts ? I didn’t think it made a difference which way I reinstalled the idle gear, but is it on upside down?

This is puzzling to me because generally what I have found was if I have bad gears, they will feel Geary reeling backward or forwards.

Thanks for any and all insight!

I flipped the idle gear and it didn’t make any difference...so I assume it requires new drive and pinion as expected. Probably had weird wear pattern like out of alignment tires on a vehicle.

What sort of wear do you see on the gear teeth? Any?

Did you make the shim adjustments on the main drive gear?

A small minute out of alignment shim adjustment could make all the difference in the world.
