Daiwa Reel Resources?

Post by DaveT63 » Tue Oct 02, 2018 5:24 pm

I've been slowly accumulating a more Daiwa reels, and am looking for some sort of resource to help me with what spools work with which reels, which spools IMPROVE which reels, which reels are on similar platforms so parts can be swapped, and so forth. I hate feeling like I'm a pest in some of these forums and want to learn more. Info on the reels I already have would be a good start. They are all left-handed:

Purple Alphas 103L
Alphas Ito Ai 103L
Alphas SV 105L
OG Steez 103L
SV 103L
T3 1016 L
PX68L
Sol
Tatula 100HL

I've been considering a Zillion as well.

I know the Alphas and Sol are the same platform and I can swap parts. But I know nothing about what can swap or improve the others. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially pointing me to some sort of Daiwa library type thing.

Thanks,

Dave

Sol and all Alphas reels you've mentioned have interchangable spool. The best stock spool of these is from the Alphas Ito. Og steez, sv103 and t3 have interchangable spools (to use the og steez spool inside a t3 you need to remove the brass shim underneath the bearing of your palming side plate). The R+ spool from the OG steez is my favorite, but the rcs1016 inside the T3 is also excellent.

Put an SLP G1 1012SV spool, or a Zpi Nrc001-m spool in that T3. You can thank me later 8-)

Do you mean that part No. 18 has to be removen from T3 if Steez 103 spool is used with it? And if so, then obviously also from SV Zillion is needed to be removen part No. 11 if Steez 103 spool is used with it?

Would light sanding (plus polish after that) for axle do the same job?

I'm asking because I have just ordered Steez 103 spool for my SV Zillion. And I would be happy if I won't be needed to revove (or install) shim when I change spool.

It only needs removed on the T3 for certain spools to work. If you find that you can’t get any side to side play in the spool when used in a T3 then the metal shin needs removed. The other reel doesn’t need anything removed for it to work.

Remove #4 and put it all back together.

Yup, but you do need to remove it for the steez 103 spool. Same thing applies to the ryoga1016 (dont know about the new one).

Thanks - OK! I (try to remember to) report when spool has arrived and I have tried how's that Steez 103 spool will fit to my SV Zillion.

(Estimated delivery Oct 12, 2018 - Oct 18, 2018)

EDIT: Steez 103 spool fits perfectly to SV Zillion. There's ~0.1 mm longer axle in Steez but that's not big issue. Line spools nice also in SV Zillion. And there's different diameter in the head of axle (and different bearing) but still this is not issue because bearing outer diameters are same.

Also starting thinking in spool size vs reel model/name. That will help clear up some confusion, then you can refine by name/model easier as well...

OG Zillion platform and TD-Z 100m - 36 mm
Steez, Tdz (except 100m), T3, SS SV, SV103 - 34 mm
Alphas platforms - 33 mm
SS Air, Alphas Air, T3 Air - 32 mm
Pixy platforms - 31 mm

The TD-Z Big Bait Special also uses a 36mm spool.
And the Alphas Air Stream Custom uses a 31mm spool, fully compatible with all Pixy's with the exception of the SPR.

It fits OG Steez, Steez SVTW. TDZ ( except 100M as 78Staff noticed )
I don't know about other models.

It’s a 34mm sv spool. Your options are basically endless.
