Post by hookfynn » Mon Jul 16, 2018 1:29 pm

anyway to upgrade the drag on an ss sv for more stopping power? i know its more of a finesse reel but i till like it for a few other things and am tired of hammering the drag down.

There are 2 choices. Replace the main gear with the same ratio from a steez and buy the drag washers(both metal and carbon). Or Upgrade to the 8.1:1 kit that TT has on their site. Their kit has the everything needed.

TD Zillion gears go into the SS SV as a direct swap, add the zillion drag with it and you get brass gears and more than enough drag. Only downside is added weight that some people don't like. But you get more drag and durability.

only thing Ive done is take the stack out and clean them... Im using an 8.1.1 for frogging with 65lb braid..
The other was being used for heavy jigs and 20-25Lb seaguar..
Both have no issues with locking down the drag..

OG Steez SHA 7.1:1 gears will fit, as will the Steez SV gears ( both the 6.3 and 8.1 sets).
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I don't think that's right. OG stress and TD-Z gears swap to each other, but it's my understanding that the 8.1 Steez (both the limited and usdm SV), Zillion, SS SV, Steez SV TW/A, and a few other new reels share gears that aren't compatible with the OG Steez and TD-Z's. I would LOVE to put a set of brass 8.1 gears in one of my OG Steez's, but 7.1 is as fast as it gets.

You might be right. I recall putting a brass 8:1 gear set in an SS SV, but it might be that it was from another reel, possibly a Zillion. Something to do with the pinion gear, I had to use one from another gear set. Its been 3-4 yrs, though, and my memory isn't what it used to be. The og Steez 6.3 gears and TDZ gears will swap, but the 7.1 Steez main gear is larger and is the same o.d. as the og Zillion.
