TD-Z 103,105, stock controls swept handle

Post by Moosehead » Sat Jul 07, 2018 1:10 pm

I would appreciate any advice on where to look. Some of the "searched" advice is old and some recommended handles are no longer available. I like the classic lines of the TDZ and I also like the factory cast control and drag star. I would like to find a quality swept handle that can clear the factory drag star. To me the TD-Z could benefit from the controls being gun metal gray but only if it could be had in the factory stock looks. So if anyone can offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it. I realize there are newer reels but I still mainly fish with TD-Z and Zillions and they have always served me well.

Thanks

That's not going to happen. If you want a swept handle, you need a corresponding swept drag star otherwise there is no clearance between the handle and the dragstar.

I know there was some handles that cleared it but I couldn't find where they still sell them. Thanks.

Hawgtech handles fit the stock dragstar, there's a spacer that fits between the handle & star

Interesting... but then, won't that simply place the knobs in the same position as the original handle?

Sort of even with the spacer its not in the same space. Guess its not a huge spacer. Thanks for all the accurate info! Looking at their handles now. Something else I just thought of is a have a spare swept drag star from a steez and although a little darker than the cast control knob I believe it will fit and that will open up the options a little bit. One other question, with the TD Zillion sha cast control knob work on the TDZ. The steez ds and zillion cast cap are pretty close.

Found the answer I needed. Gonna put the Steez cast control knob on it.

The 100mm gunmetal color tatula handle will fit. You will not be able to back off the drag tension completely, but enough to stop any damage to the drag washers when the reel is not in use. That handle is on my tdz's, TD itos, red and orange pixys .
