Breaking open the Chronarch MGL
Purchased carbontex drag washers for my chronarch mgl but a little hesitant with the install. I removed the 3 screws but could not get it apart... Anyone have any words of advice? I have searched for a video of a teardown without success.
Its a JDM reel so the factory literature is in Japanese so of little use.

I'm thinking you missed the very small screw by the thumb bar, it's actually on the guide that the thumb bar travels on.

Is that the key to opening this thing up?

That's the one. One question though, why swap out the drag? It comes with carbon from the factory that are very smooth. Looking for more drag pressure?

Good question!
Recently fighting an 8# steelhead the drag did not feel real smooth and was a little herky-jerky.

They aren't CarbonTex, but they are factory carbon fiber drag washers. Chronarch CI4 also came with them.VinnyOA wrote:What do you mean by carbon?Or did you mean to say it comes with carbon tex drag washers stock?JBcrankaddict wrote:That's the one. Re: Breaking open the Chronarch MGL
I'd say they compare nicely as far as smoothness. No idea how much it increases pressure though. I swapped to CarbonTex in one of my CI4s and really can't tell the difference. I wouldn't swap them out unless you are having issues like the OP was having. The Metanium comes with the old Dartanium drag washers, so the Carbon washers should be an upgrade, but if it's already smooth I see no reason to change.
