Gen 1 Revo STX Spool bent pin
I'm looking at a reel for a guy because it was making the classic noise when the handle is spun and suddenly stopped, where the spool pin jumps the notches in the pinion gear. I pulled the spool out and the pin is bent badly (in my opinion). I was just looking for recommendations on what to do. I've done most everything to a casting reel possible, but the one thing I've never messed with is the spool pins, and I don't have the special tool. Can you buy a new pin, or is it only sold as part of an entire assembly? Thanks for any tips.

I would call Abu, and ask them.
If it were my reel, and the parts were available, I'd buy a new spool and a new gear set.

I had a bent pin on my Gen 2 Revo Premier spool. Bought extras from Ereplacementparts and made my own tool to remove and install them.

I don't repair reels, so forgive a question from a person who doesn't know any better.JBcrankaddict wrote:I had a bent pin on my Gen 2 Revo Premier spool. Bought extras from Ereplacementparts and made my own tool to remove and install them.
I would have thought that the spool pin was harder than the brass pinion it engages.
Won't the pinion be messed up, too?
By the way, thanks for that great source for parts!

I would say that you are correct, though I'm not sure how it bent. I replaced the main gear and pinion at the same time, so I didn't notice if the pinion was damaged as well. This was before I did my own maintanence, and could have also been caused by removing it or trying to install it the wrong way(pin is tapered and only works 1 way). They can bend easily if you aren't careful.mark poulson wrote:

I usually try to order directly from Abu since it is a little cheaper, but they if they don't have what I need I use that site. Glad it helped!
