Long distance spool for sv103
Hi,
I am having a problem with distance on my sv103. I feel that the stock spool really limits my casting distance.
Spool spring has been changed to HLC spring, running ceramic bearings and done all the super tuning I can, short of removing magnets.
I was using 1 1/4 oz on a 8.6' rod (on 2 brakes, seaside casting so i cant go to 0) and was getting a lot under the distance i would have with my normal zillion og.
I am considering the steez A g1 spool for its magforce z and it has the deepest spool option. Should i be looking at this spool or the steez hlc ize or slp sv 1016 g1? I m after something that has a deep spool (deeper the better) and has the best long casting capability.
Has anyone tried the Steez A g1 spool and compared it with a slp sv1016 g1?
thanks.

You could always do the RCS 1016 (from the T3). Good spool for distance and control.

OG TD-Z Type R spool. It is in my frog reel and it straight up spins. It will blow up on you if you push it, but at over an ounce, it should be long and effortless.

1016 or sell the reel to source a different OG Zillion. If you do attempt the Steez A spool, let us know how that works. As you already stated, you can change spools, but can't change the magnetic polarity short of swapping side plates
Re: Long distance spool for sv103
Such an awesome frame (from what I hear) for doing anything fishing, just those weights seem awful heavy. I'm not super 1016 spool educated, but from what I have heard the RCS1016 TackleTrap carries works well for distance. Considered one as an alternative to the G1 SV TW Zillion spool that is indefinitely sold out...

Thanks for the input guys.
It seems that most of you are steering towards the Magforce Z spools. Maybe that is a better option.

Re: Long distance spool for sv103
I just put a RCS 1012 spool in my sv103 and the casting difference was insane. I went from running the brake around 3-4 for most everything to having to run it at 8-5 to keep the spool from feathering up. I had it out today and put it through it's paces with about one of every "style" of lure and across the board casting ease and distance are all up. Pitching was the same thing, but with the caveat that the distance increase came with a drop in control. With the stock spool I could be very lazy with my thumb, but the 1012 really requires attention. But the distance increase was crazy, docks I could just struggle to pitch under with the stock spool, the 1012 would send the same lures smacking into the dock's lip, clearly with a ton of energy left with what felt like the same amount of force.

What is the difference between the rcs 1012 and 1016 spool?

The 1012 is shallower.WEBBY005383 wrote:What is the difference between the rcs 1012 and 1016 spool?

Any news on this topic? Any spools that work well for 1/2oz and up?

Re: Long distance spool for sv103
I have been wondering the same question... I heard the guys at tackletrap can install a spring that will speed up the spool a bit. Perhaps someone has had that done?
