Quick question, I own a pair of Shimano Caius baitcasters and have been looking for a shallow spool to install on it. Surprisingly, in stock form it is capable of throwing light lures like in the 2g range. AliExpress has this 1 shallow spool for the Shimano Casitas.

My question is, do the Shimano Casitas and Shimano Caius share the same spool design? Would I be able to install this shallow spool in my Shimano Caius? The platforms look very similar. Thank you in advance!

No, but there is a spool for the Bass One which uses should work. The Casitas spool is designed to work with VBS and the brake pipe in the palming plate. The Bass One should have the same brake as the Caius and Caenan. Unfortunately the spools are out of stock on Aliexpress and may not come back. They were affordable too.

Actually I am wrong. The Caius uses a brake block design like what is found on the the SVS reels without the adjustable brake pipe. It does not have the same VBS as the Bass One. This is uncharted territory but I don't see why a Ray's Studio DIY for Casitas won't fit a Caius. These reels all share a common platform and as long as the brake type is compatible then I don't see why the spools would not work. The Ray's spool requires you to remove the brake blocks off the old spool for use one the spool.

The brake holder assembly on the Casitas and Caius look to be the same. You won't know for certain that the Caius brake blocks will fit until it comes time to install them. You would be on the cutting edge of this in uncharted territory. Worse case scenario you end up picking up a Casitas to make the spool work. BFSing cheap reels is kinda fun. I made a Black Max BFS with a $30 9 gram MoMo spool and some DIY micro bearings.

If the spool will fit into the reel (highly likely ) and the brake blocks off the old spool with fit (probably) then it will work. By keeping the brake blocks with the reel then you know that those brakes will work with that centrifugal race.

The very shallow and light weight DIY spools made by “Roro” for 34mm Daiwa/Steez etc are again available.

Moreover, the same manufacturer has made DIY spools for the CT reels.

Which one, any links? I fund this. 4.9g in a 34mm/steez platform, and its made by RORO as well.

Can you help with a link for the 34mm spool. The 34mm Roro I can find is with round holes...

The picture i posted was for the 30mm platform.

Has anyone tried the RORO spools? How do they perform compared to the high end from megabass, ktf, etc? The spool bearings seems like something you cannot buy from hedgehog, so that's kind of a problem

I have two of the Roro 34mm spools. I got them when the spools were briefly for sale some months ago. They perform great - for lightweight lures I actually find that they are better than ktf/zpf being so shallow and low weight. If you go with heavier lures, eg 5 gram, the casting distance is top notch. In addition, I have not noticed any noise from the spools. Quality is good. I recommend them. I have them in my T3s at the moment and will be using them the next couple of days for smallish lake trout in Norway.

I have three of the Roro CT spools in my mailbox at home...will try them in a weeks time.

Which 34mm platform? OG Zillion or newer Zillion TWS / HD. I think they are both 34mm diameter but different widths.

I think both of those are 36mm, but different widths. 34mm spools are for the TDZ, Steez, Zillion SV TW and T3 platforms.

I received my Roro. It feels LIGHT!

Comparing here Roro inductor vs. K.T.F. Inductors are very different. Roro inductor is much nearer to end of shaft. And it’s much smaller. Meaning weak but constant braking force. And that’s what I have been wanting when BFS fishing with my Alphas ct. [K.T.F.:s ‘Kahen’ is anyway first spool with sv style inductor which I have actually enjoyed in BFS fishing. But I’m not still sure is there actually any need of moving inductor in BFS... But K.T.F. is fine in BFS. And I have not tested it outside BFS. Probably it’s very good in that.]

Manufacturing quality of Roro is not good in my opinion. It’s bad even comparing to my cheapest spool: Ray’s DIY. But that’s not issue in my opinion. Roro’s is very light and that’s why I bought it. But when installing Roro’s to reel I found that it’s not balanced. It’s a little heavier and with slow rotation it sets to more weighty side to down. Probably this is not big issue in BFS fishing (small lures, short casts, low revolutions). But for $70 I expected more. Because Ray’s 34 mm DIY cost something $30 - $40 end it’s mechanically perfect. I’m thinking that maybe I must open dispute to Aliexpess. I know that I can try to balance spool with tape or grinding it slightly. But still $70 spool should be balanced.
