They have matte pixy spools out too. Sellers seem to have both matte and polished in stock so double check when ordring.zodiak311 wrote:Airy Red Pixilla would love that matte red!LowRange wrote:New satin colored aluminum knobs for Shimano and Daiwa reels. Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I am looking for a BFS spool for a Daiwa SV103 (I am looking to throw 1/8oz poppers and jerkbaits). Anybody with any experience here?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
There are two that will fit the reel. A super shallow spool and shallow spool. They're around $50 on aliexpress and $60 on ebay. They are liked in other 103 reels but I haven't heard any feedback about how they perform in an sv103. They are spools listed as T3/TDZ/Steez compatibility.freelancer27 wrote:I am looking for a BFS spool for a Daiwa SV103 (I am looking to throw 1/8oz poppers and jerkbaits). There are other sellers but I use weihai fishing store because he has the largest selection of DIY parts. West door fishing tackle is another good store and has thing weihai does not.

I like the markings on that fish. Is that some species of snakehead? Also, what knobs are those? Milled versions of the DIY "shimano" anodized aluminum knobs?

yep, those are one of snakehead species, local called it udun/bujuk. Knobs link where I purchased http://s.aliexpress.com/mIjMBFZ3LowRange wrote:wandyhee wrote:got opportunity to cast micro sp lures recently with 2.5g total weight, no issue. This spool fit:

Kawa has handles and color parts too. Their rods look interesting but I never pulled the trigger on one. Didn't know they had DIY parts too. Their carbon handles are super cheap but are limited in colors, and parts when ordering when compared to the 'haibo' handles from Ray's Studio. These are likely the same carbon handles you see on $40 to $50 reels with stock carbon handles. The carbon double knob shimano spinning handle looks nuts. Are those dual knob handles for shimano spinning reels really a thing?

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I got out for a few hours today and I was planning on doing real fishing but I had to call it quits after I discovered a hole in the kayak and nearly sank the thing. So I decided to play around with the Black Max 3 BFS to see how low the Studio of Momo spool could go. I was testing with a 1/32 oz Johnson Beetle spin with spinner and arm removed leaving only the jig and plastic. Not sure on the weight but it is probably around 1/30 oz total weight. Really neat bait btw. The jig and plastic falls horizontally with a slight gliding motion. It looks real good in the water the local gills agreed because they would slam it. Felt good to pop those damn gills that are always taking the tails off my small swimbaits and pulling baits down the hook shank.
Reel: Abu BM3 with the Studio of Momo spool
Bearings: DIY micro air
Rod: Kuying Teton 662L
Line: #10 Nanofill green
The rod was way overpowered for the bait and wouldn't load properly so I couldn't get any distance or accuracy but the momo spool is what I was testing and it had no problem with the bait and it was very controlled but still plenty fast. On some of the whip casts I could hear the spool singing. If I would have used the proper rod I think the bait would have cast very well. With the spool tension set for a little side to side play and 0 on the mag dial the bait would fall at a medium slow rate which is impressive. Even a bait this light can still easily get the spool spinning but the upgraded bearing are a big part of that. The stock bearing on the spool and BM3 palming plate did not spin very freely.

How do you like the Magforce 3D and Ray's Spool? In long cast does the spool become faster than in a regular Daiwa? In max brake does the spool seem more controlled and slower than in a regular Daiwa? It is really a shame Magforce 3D wasn't more wide spread across Daiwa platforms.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
I did direct comparison on my T3 MX vs ZILLION SV TW using same rod, same lure and same spool + line (spool interchangable between Zillion SV & T3), T3 mx set at long cast and it's bombing farther than ZILLION, by obvious margin (no measurement taken though, only estimation by using multicolors line - 10m each color). This comparison are using setup as below:LowRange wrote:How do you like the Magforce 3D and Ray's Spool? In long cast does the spool become faster than in a regular Daiwa? Rod: Surecatch Surebite 612MH
Spool: Zillion SV spool
Line: 20lb Proberos Multicolor x4 braided
leader: 30lb FC coated Kastking
Lure: 13g Silver spoon
magnetic setup: Zillion at #4, T3 at #0 with magforce 3d at Long Cast. Yep, T3 brake at #0. result?
cast distance range: Zillion SV 45m +/-, T3 MX 55m +/-
so far since I've never set Magforce 3D on T3 MX to other setup except Long Cast, as I don't see requirement for that (for skipping, I use same setup as overhead/side cast and only using extra thumb braking to control spool rotation - to minimize unnecessary adjustment on braking). for lure weight in the picture above, casting distance is somewhere around 20m max base on my estimation magforce 3d set at long cast and magnetic set at #6, +-1 depend on wind condition

There is a new spool out for Tatula CT/Fuego CT. 8.5 grams. The porting pattern on the spool and air brake look different than the Ray's studio DIY spools. I think this is a Studio of Momo brand spool. This is the 1st Daiwa type spool I've seen them release.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
where are the spools for the Met mgl? for such popular reels, they should make a spool for.
Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!
wondering why are these new 8.5g spool come with lure weight spec 2.5-18g? while older spool without holes (perforated) weighted 11.2g come with lure weight spec 1.5-15g? doesn't seem worth for BFS upgrading (I could be wrong)LowRange wrote:
