Thanks for the link. So it´s a MB copy with a MB price ;) But even the normal Ali spools are almost twice the price there :(

50 bucks on Ali would be fair!

Had to rehash this amazing thread, thinking of a cheap Tatula CT-Type R with the Ali deeper DIY spool. So many people mentioned the BFS cheap spools, but did anyone try the deeper version? If not, how much 10-12 fluorocarbon would the super shallow one hold, I am having trouble converting YGK numbers to US diameters for comparison...

You can convert the PE to braid # and then use that to ball park the amount of line based on diameter it will hold. Judging by the pics the CT deep DIY "Long Cast" spool looks to be similar in depth to a Tatula CT SV spool so I would think it would hold useable amounts of #10 and #12 non braid.

Thanks for the help, also looking into the Zillion TWS spool that someone turned me on to. Would be interesting to have a shallow spool in a reel that big, at first I didn't believe it was for the 1516 until reading further. Not sure if it is BFS style though or deep, haven't looked it up in a while... Now if I can just settle on a BFS rod that will throw 1/16 heads with tiny minnow style plastics.

I have the deep "PE Longcast Special" DIY spool for the Steez/IS/TDZ/SS SV. I put mine in an SS SV and it is awesome. Looks to be about the same depth as the DIY deep spool for the Tatula CT. My spool holds about 90 yds of 14# mono, if my spooling station counter is correct.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Awseome. An actual DIY spool. I assume it is made from carbon fiber. How does it cast?

I wonder why they don't make more super ultra light BFS spools from material other than aluminum... seems like with that light of line that plastic or carbon fiber composed spools could be fine.

As long as you are using light drag and the tolerances work any decent strong material should work...
