Plutons Line Guide Issue

Post by Ong Jim » Wed Mar 25, 2015 6:19 am

I have been having issues with my Pluton line guide getting stuck to the palm plate side. On the retrieve, the line guide will get stuck and a ball of line will lay one side only and the only way I known is when I can't feel anymore due to the full spool On that side. It will come back after I push it back. This does not happen every time but I now focus on my reel more than fishing.

I have tried greasing the level wind guard and stabilizer bar but it has not helped. Anyone having this problem and know the reason behind it?

You need a new pawl as the one in your reel is damaged. You might be really unlucky and the geared rod it runs in might be damaged too, but just put a new pawl in and see what happens first. Should only take a moment to fit once you've got the part.

Thanks, I will give that a try. It gets really annoying.

This issue is back. I have a new pawl and a and a stabilizer bar in it still gets stuck other either right or left side. And when I took the old pawl out, visually, it did not look damage. Same with the stabilizer bar.

Is the washer that goes in between the cap and the top of the pawl missing? If it is, then the pawl isn't riding deep enough into the worm gear. Try using a hole punch to punch out a plastic disc from a 20 oz. Coke bottle(punch from a flat spot like the side wall). Put that spacer in and see if the problem continues. This has fixed the same issue for me in the past.

Had the same problem with a STX, new pawl, and 2 washers from Abu fixed it.

Did you place the washer in the cap where the pawl is?

I think this is the issue Im having.

The Pluton pawl assembly isnt like the low profile so adding a washer made it worse and could do damage. I highly suspect, it isnthe plastic levelwind gear.

Followed the discussion on this link, this is my problem. Does anyone know if Daiwa made a better part or do they just replace the broken part with the same weak part"
