JDM Daiwa X vs. US Daiwa Z
JDM Daiwa X vs. US Daiwa Z
I know they are basically the same reel, my question is, are their any differences in the JDM reels i.e.. fit and finish or component quality versus the U.S. Marketed Team Daiwa Z. I want to pick up a couple as project reels and was wondering if I should Focus on the JDM X's or if it didn't matter

Re: JDM Daiwa X vs. US Daiwa Z
Internally, the only difference is the TDZ has a bearing on the worm gear and the TDX has a bushing. Externally, the TDX has no clicking cc cap, plastic drag star and riveted, non removable knobs. Additionally, the TDZ has the GIGAS spool and the TDX has a standard ported aluminum V spool. They are nice reels, basically a 103 sized Fuego. But don't pay much over $100 for even an excellent specimen. There are too many nice TDZ's floating around out there in the $150-$175 range.

Thanks, got it for $50. Very nice condition. I think I'll put the gigas spool on it and some bearings and be done with it. I know I can get a Z for $150 in great shape but I love finding the old Daiwas for $50 or less and tricking them out and either using them or reselling them. I've actually made some money with some U.S. Market TD-X's

If you got a TD-X Air Metal reel for $50, you got a killer deal!

$53 actually, E-bay. JDM Team Daiwa x 105 hl. I love the pitching version of these reels but I know some don't. Seller never mentioned that it was the JDM but I know my reels. I just saw a JDM, team Daiwa S and never knew it was the same as the U.S. TD-X's

I just picked up a TD X 105HL with a ZPI spool for 120. Should make a good workhorse reel for flipping and pitching..
I did notice that the TD X does not have bearings on the idler gears that drive the worm gear.
