6.8:1 TD-Z Gear Swap?
6.8:1 TD-Z Gear Swap?
The recent thread about the “hyper speed mod for the millionaire 103 platform” got me thinking about the possibility of installing the Pixy 6.8:1 gear set in a T-DZ 103ML. Has anyone attempted this conversion? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the information. Does anyone know which reel the gear set is derived from?

I guess the gear sets are from Megabass IS reels.

That's interesting because I would have guessed the existing conversion kit utilizes the EX brass gears. I'm hoping someone chimes in and let's us know the source of the gears.cndbasshunter wrote:Gary told me the new steez ex brass gears will be available soon

current offerings in brass are from the td-z. with the td-z being fazed out they are moving to gears from the steez. only bad thing is the price just went up quite a bit.aqua71 wrote:That's interesting because I would have guessed the existing conversion kit utilizes the EX brass gears. I have been thinking brass gears for all my 7:1 Steez since the Steez EXs came out. How I'm thing TDZ ITO. All my stuff is right hand.
Re: 6.8:1 TD-Z Gear Swap?
Just learn from Gary, 7:1 gears won't work for TDZs, but right hand will work for Steezs. TTT is the best.

I am reading you correctly that there will be a higher gear ratio Steez gear set that will can be retro-fitted into a RH 103/105 platform TDZ?BigG wrote:Just learn from Gary, 7:1 gears won't work for TDZs, but right hand will work for Steezs. TTT is the best.

No, I've yet to find a readily available, reliable source of 7:1 gears that will fit into the RIGHT hand TD-Z platform. As referenced in the link above, The Tackle Trap already has a conversion kit for LEFT hand TD-Z framed reels, including Ito 103HL, Steez 103HL, and Megabass IS63L. These are brass gears as well. I've wanted a 7:1 TD-Z since the first time I ever held one, it took a while, but now it's here for the LH reel usersdragon1 wrote:I am reading you correctly that there will be a higher gear ratio Steez gear set that will can be retro-fitted into a RH 103/105 platform TDZ?BigG wrote:Just learn from Gary, 7:1 (RIGHT HAND) gears won't work for TDZs, but right hand will work for Steezs. Hello Gary,
Is there a faster worm drive as well? Wondering about dig-ins with braid..

I haven't had any dig in issues and have been fishing braid on one of my LH 7:1 TD-Z's, but just in case, this one is a drop in:Good351 wrote:Hello Gary,
