Daiwa SLP upgrades-Review
I received my SLP Works upgrade parts a couple of days back. These included 2 x SLP Works 1010 shallow spools and the Zaion 'air' light weight skeleton knobs. The knobs went onto a custom T3 together with a 1010 spool loaded with 20lb Samurai braid.
The spool performed pretty similar to the ZPI magnesium RC-002 shallow spool.Fast start up and extreme control. The sweet spot for this spool is around 1/2 oz.This makes it an amazing spool for pitching, best I have used
It is very difficult to over wind even on the 'long cast' setting on the T3.As mentioned the extreme control is this spools strong point.
Daiwa mentions that the 1010 spool is designed for short range pinpoint casting with accuracy and ease of use being the key.
I also managed to toss 1/2 oz baits very long distances so this spool seems to be rather versatile.
It is not a finesse spool and should not be used for these purposes, there are better options out there for the light stuff.
These tests were carried out on the T3,I have a 1010 in my Steez as well.Still need to test this one but expect the results to be very similar.
The Zaion 'air' skeleton knobs feel great in hand and function as they should. They also look real 'cool'.I would highly recommend them.

How did you get these parts. I know that you can have a t3 upgraded but I did not know they were sold separately?

Also wondering how you aquired them and about how much. Very interested in the knobs.

They pop up from time to time on the Japanese auction sites.Expect to pay around 9000 yen for the spools and 11000 yen for the knobs + carbon swept handleFinnz922 wrote:Great looking upgrades!zodiak311 wrote:Beautiful! How much do those upgrade sets usually cost? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks africanbass. Good to know that the 1010 spool is not for finesse as usually shallower spool are presumable better at finesse, eg the 1012. Cheers.

Re: Daiwa SLP upgrades-Review
Dragging up an old post here. Does anyone have any specifics for the 1010 spools. Weight, capacity? This thread points to it as being a fairly versatile spool with a bias toward maybe 1/2oz. How does it go with under 1/8oz? TIA.

Plenty has happened since this thread began
SV spools have changed the landscape
1010 can cast 1/4 oz anything below is SV territory

How was the 1010 in your Steez? For reference, I have a 1012 in an OG Steez and find it a little too fast for my thumb.africanbass wrote:Plenty has happened since this thread began
