Steez upgrades or not?

Post by BigG » Thu Jan 10, 2013 1:56 pm

In the past year I have picked 8 Steez casting reels on sale and was wondering if the bearings and drags should be upgraded. Are there any other upgrades that would help (no fitesse)? Thinking about converting one to cranking, what type of money related this?

drags not really as they are already carbon drags..
Bearings maybe as Ive seen the Bocas calm the reel down better then the stock bearings..
the 103 is a pretty finicky casting reel..

x2..... The drags are solid but replace the spool bearings. A good set of Boca OS are the way to go.

Personally. I'd fish them stock until you feel they don't meet your performance expectations.

You could convert one to a Crankin' Steez:)

I am loving the T3 RCS spool in my 103. I've been bombing Vision 110's with it. :big grin:

The one Daiwa reel that shines when fished 'stock' :big grin:
That's if you have a thumb.....

I have put a t 3 RCS spool in one of the 103's, but have not used it yet. Planning on using it for general purposes i.e. spinnerbaits, large senko's and some crankbaits. The 103 that I have used is matched with a Rattle Viper and I use it to cast 1/4 oz poppers and smaller jerkbaits. I love it. When used with larger baits it is a pill, but I learned to cast with a abu 5000, so not so bad.

I have been looking for a spool to put in my 103 to use with jerkbaits. Is this spool easier to control than the stock 103 spool?

IMO I would have to say no. But once dialed in, I can get major distances, with very little casting effort. Once your thumb gets use to it, you will really enjoy it, especially when casting Vision 110s.

Good to know. Thanks.

The drag is kinda weak. It is only 8lb. I want to upgrade the drag.

Drag should be fine unless going after 12#s in mats. Ripped a whole in this 3 plus pounder.

The stock 100 spool casts really well with a 110 and other lures with similar weights. It is also effortless to control. Once dialed in, I don't even touch the spool until splashdown. The TD-Z 105H spool is another great substitute that is really easy to cast.
