The OG Zillion gears should work in the high speed models as I believe these are the same as the SS SV, I have changed my SS SV reels to OG Zillion gears as they are much smoother and give the ability to upgrade the drag as well.

After checking every Daiwa I could think of, I think I figured out a 5.1:1 lefty gear set. Requires a bit of a mod, But nothing too complicated.

Setup in my TD-100ML. :big grin: Now to test the heck out of it!!

hmmm. i really do not have a clue. to my knowledge, there was not a 103p released here or in Japan. i do not know of any other lefty reels that would work either....
The 103ML gear set would work, though it is 5.7:1, not 5:1. Still a slower, more powerful gear ratio, though.

Since the 6.3 Steez already comes in at 26" (advertised, reality is more like 24-25"), I wonder how much lower the 5.7 TD-Z 100/103ML gearset would go? 2-3" slower possibly?

JJBassnForFun, any follow to your testing with the 5:1 LH gearset? What gearset did you use? Any idea of IPT achieved? That might hit 20-21 I would think... Nice deep CB or SB reel I would say.

78staff,

IPL for the 5.7 TDZ-BBS with the 36mm spool is approx. 25.4". With the 5.1:1 gearset the 34mm TDZ103 is approx. 21.65" and the TDZ100/BBS is approx. 22.9"

Unfortunately the 5.1:1 gearset I used in the TDZ100 LH is NLA. :(

I'm checking out other sister reels to see if something else is close. But other projects have me bogged down.

If this becomes of great interest, I could have the oem set laser scanned and fabricated. Pretty pricey though.... Tried it with the TDZ rh 7.1:1 gearset and its netting around $100 clams each to have sets made.

Been beating the fudge out of them with SB and bladed jigs slow rolling over grass. The 100ML is working dandy. The gears I used came from the Millionaire CV-Z203L

All that is required is to drill the 3 holes to allow main gear and drive gear A to match up.......... :big grin:

How difficult is it to get a gear set?
