Saltwater bearings

Post by Braith » Thu May 26, 2011 10:09 pm

Which bearings do you consider to be the best for use in salt water?
I use a chronarch, an ABU 2500 and 1500. Some bearings rust as soon as they get near the salt water.
What maintenance routine do you use in salt water?
Thanks
Braith

I have found the stock shimano bearings to be OK, provided they are cleaned and lubed on a regular basis. The black ARBs are better, however, as are the Daiwa CRRBs. I'm still using the stock (non-ARB) bearings in an Antares AR after 5 years of heavy use in saltwater, and the reel is super smooth. I always keep my reels away from salt spray when under way in the boat .
