I like Hot Sauce. It lasts a very long time, It stays where I put it and the viscosity is more constant than some others in different temps.

ZPI F-0 oil on bearings and Tri-Flow High Performance Synthetic Grease with Teflon on gears.

Hot Sauce has good viscosity and temperature characteristics but I hate the red dye they put in it - gets all over everything! I use Yellow Rocket Fuel in spool bearings, Reel butter oil elsewhere, and Superlube grease.

I like superlube grease for gears and frame bearings, and Yellow Rocket fuel for spool bearings. I also use shimano's drag grease on drag washers.

I also use SuperLube on the gears and frame bearings and Yellow Rocket Fuel in the metal bearings. Oust Met Oil goes in the ceramic bearings and ReelX goes on the worm gear. Shimano drag grease on the drag washers.

Cal's for Drag washers
Hot Sauce oil for Ceramic Bearings, I use only 1 drop of Hot Sauce oil per bearing, H/S will last for a month, where as Rem oil, Met's & Friction Zero will only last a few days of hard fishing.
TSI 301 for S.S. bearings, the best lube for S.S. bearings will last for a good month of hard fishing.
Hot Sauce grease for the gears, on worm gears I use a 50/50 mix of H/S oil & grease.

I use reel butter. I have pretty good luck with it so far. I picked it up at a local academy sports a couple of years ago and it seemed to work good so I stuck with it.

Can you use the same grease on drag and gear?

I tried using Cal's on my gears once. I found that Cal's is too sticky, and you could feel it while cranking. It was weird, there was just this extra resistance. I switched the grease on the gears immediately.

My progression to date:
-spool bearings: Hot Sauce->Oust Met-Oil
-gears/frame bearings: Hot Sauce->Daiwa 'blue grease'->Super Lube
-drag: Shimano Star Drag Grease

I have been using Hot Sauce oil in my reels (combination of stock and Boca OS, slowly converting all to Boca), how does the stock Daiwa oil compare? I have oil from my Pixy, Alpha ito, Sol, Steez, Zillion, and have them just sitting in the original boxes, how would they compare? is there a difference in the oil that came with the Sol as opposed to the Steez? How about the JDM Pixy vs Alpha? how about between the USDM sol/steez vs the JDM pixy/alpha oils?

I have been looking at maybe switching my hot sauce to the Ouest Met-Oil, will I see a big difference? Will I have to oil more often?

thx.sid

I use cal´s grease for the drag, TG´s oil for the bearings and TG´s grease for the gear but i´m going to change the grease because when it rains and reel takes waters the grease is finish :cry: doesn´t work and i have to clean the reel, so i´m thinking in a new grease for the gear :D

Soon after I began using Super Lube, I fished in the rain twice within two weeks. Each time a couple of the reels were soaked pretty good after use most of the day. Wiped the external dry, let the internal air dry and did not do anything else when I returned home. Each reels' performance was unchanged after getting soaked in the rain.

Full disclosure: same experience with the remaining Daiwa "blue grease" reels.

I like Cal's grease for drag washers
Quantum hot sauce for bearings when there is plastic parts near or for use with ceramic bearings
TS-301 for metal bearings
Yamaha marine outboard grease for gears and light internal brushing of parts to protect against corrosion.

Woodland Scenic's Hob-E-Lube White Grease with Teflon for gears(super slick) and their synthetic oil for rest. Cal's for the drag!
