Pixy drag chattering and sticking?

Post by Ranger520 » Thu Feb 01, 2007 8:20 pm

My new Pixy seems to have a problem with its drag as described. Is this normal? Thanks for your help.

Is it really sticking ? As in getting stuck? Or just stopping and go chatter? chattering is normal on this real BTW. Try and tighten down the drag pretty tight, hold your thumb on the spool and spin the handle to break the drag in then see if that helped, it may if your chattering is severe. Its also possible your drag disks got contaminated with grease..

Good luck with it!

yeah... that'd be my guess - or oil. I had a new one I bought last year that was really bad, so i went through and swapped out the washers with D.R. and ChuckE's drag mods (see Super Pixy Parts List post at the top of this forum) and now it's great.

If it's chattering I would think it is lack of any drag grease...do the Pixy drags get greased? I have a new one too that feels like it's dry mechanically and could use a shot of grease.

The stock drag in a pixy is a dry system. any contamination of oils will make it stick and chatter.

Bro,
I've had the same problem with my pixy as well. I send it to D.R for his "Pixyzilla" upgrade and it came back as though it was on steriods. You might want to try considering D.R. skills and services and send him your pixy. you won't regret it 8-)

Just got both the Alphas Ito and the Pixy back from D.R. I am extremely impressed by the performance of these reels after SiC upgrades, drag mod, and general tune-up by D.R. With ZPI handle and cork knob upgrades, these reels are truely awesome and I cant wait to catch fish on these reels.

THANKS AGAIN, D.R. !!!!
