I'm not sure how you'll be fishing, but I've had a lot of luck with a Shimano Cardiff. I've had mine for years and use it for light saltwater. My buddy uses the larger 400 size and it's his standard saltwater reel (mine is in the 200 size). In that price range, any of the ABU C3 or C4s would also work. Also, just recently saw the Orra for about 150, but I've never held it or know of anyone with it.

For $100, your options for inshore spinning reel are a bit limited. Based on reviews, a durable reel that can withstand saltwater and would fit your budget is a Daiwa BG20 (Black Gold) or, if you can find the original all aluminum version, a Penn 4500SS.

You want salt, then inshore salt.? And prefer $100.00 budget. A lot of guys are happy spending your money "if" they can talk you into upping the ante and spending more money. You may take a look at a sleeper right on your budget. The penn battle. Right at budget point - $99.00 for the battle 3000 and the 4000. And a lOT of people on another board love their battles. I have a battle 4000 on a rod I take to a pier, but have about decided on a battle 3000 for a reel to put on a good inshore rod. Money isn't that much of an object, but I like that battle

+1 ... for the $100 price point, the Penn Battle is hard to beat.

Penn battle is pretty awesome reel for the money. You won't have to worry about it because its built like a tank, it will handle most anything. The only down fall is that its heavy, but you'll be able to handle it no problem.

Look at the Okuma RTX too, the one that looks just like the Shimano Ci4. I just got one in 4000 model for reds and snook, its very light and seems well built. I got mine on sale plus a Okuma $20 rebate for around $65

Any penn ss or ssg will do fine. I have a 5500ss and 6500ss along with a quantum cabo 60 all purchased for well under $100 used and I don't mean well under $100 total ($40,$50, $65). Spooled with braid and never had any issues with the type of fish you're targeting especially blues

The battles are pretty nice but I got rid of mine due to the finish flaking off. Ive been using shimano saros reels and they are way better imo. Worth the 30$ more to me.

I hate when new reels have paint flaking issues. It irritates me but that's why i stick with my
Penn SS reels. No flaking no problems for these 10-20 year old reels

I found some used Saros FA's for under $100 and I love them as an inshore spinning reel. A lot of people recommend the Penn Battle as well. If you look around enough as well, new Daiwa Procyon's can be had for $99.

At the end of the day though, I'm personally a Shimano Saros guy. You can find older Saros F's new in box sometimes for under $100 and those things are workhorses for me.

I will agree with one of the above posters that the Daiwa BG series is a workhorse. Not as smooth, not as refined, but it gets the job done day in and day out.

I agree on Saros. It's the same guts as a Stradic with a plastic outside.

Shimano spinning reel for sure. Go to your local dealer and tell him your budget and look at Shimano. The Penn Battle is the former Pfluger metalist with I was not a big fan of. I have two battles but they are on big live bait rods. For trout flounder and drum the 2500 size is perfect with about 8lb Fins Windtamer braid.

For that price and inshore look at Penn. I don't believe anything from daiwa or shimano at that price will last as longin a tough saltwater environment. Coming from a daiwa enthusiast.
